How to enable Python in Excel

Python in Excel is currently rolling out to Public Preview for those in the Microsoft 365 Insiders program Beta Channel. Initially, this feature will be available for Excel for Windows, starting with build 16818, with other platforms to follow.

  1. Join the Microsoft 365 Insider Program and choose the Beta Channel Insider level to access the latest builds of Excel.
  2. After installing the latest Insider build of Excel, open a blank workbook.
  3. Select “Formulas” in the ribbon.
  4. Choose “Insert Python.”
  5. Click on the “Try preview” button in the dialog that appears.

If you don’t see this feature yet, be patient. Features are rolled out gradually to ensure smooth functionality. Some features might be removed or modified based on user feedback.

While in Preview, Python in Excel will be included with your Microsoft 365 subscription. However, after the Preview phase, some functionalities might require a paid license. More details will be provided before the feature’s General Availability.
